World class boxing at the Odyssey Arena

Friday 4th April sees Carl Frampton return to the Odyssey Arena to fight Hugo Cazares in a world title eliminator and StageCrew will again be supplying all crew and riggers for this event.

In Cazares, super-bantamweight, Frampton will be facing a two-time former world champion. "I'm going to get rid of this guy!" said Frampton as he vowed to knock him out. The winner of this bout should fight another Mexican champion, Leo Santa Cruz, later this year........hopefully this title fight will be in Belfast too!

Good luck Carl from everyone at StageCrew!

Flymen Skills (Theatre)

Stage Crew understands the value of investing in skills, training and refreshers. A fledgling flyteam attended a Flying Awareness course at the Mill Theatre in April. Under the auspices of Production Services Ireland instructor Dave Stuttard ran the crew through the rudimentaries of pulleys, blocks, sheves and mechanical advantage. Scenary can weigh over a tonne and be flown in at speeds of 30 miles an hour. The precision of a master flyman is considered an art form.

As well as providing great visuals for our photographer, it was a fascinating introduction to this noble craft. Historically off-duty sailors commanded the ropes of early fly systems, communicating in loud pitched whistles. Whistling was disallowed in the theatres lest it was interpreted as a fly command. Thus whistling is still considered bad luck today; mostly because it is annoying.

MTV Titanic Sounds - Stage build & production crew

The Titanic Centenary celebrations built to a thrilling crescendo with the Titanic Sounds concert under the imposing shadow of the spectacular new Titanic building in East Belfast. Stage-Crew supplied all build, site and production crew for the outdoor stage. The Star Stage was erected on the historic Titanic slipway with the iconic Harland & Wolff cranes towering overhead. In all, Stage-Crew supplied 46 crew over 8 days, including aerial and ground riggers as well as telehandler and M.E.W.P operators. It was an historic event in the truest sense in a stunning and memorable location.

Stage Crew had up to forty crew at a time working around the clock for a week. The sets for the party MTV presents Adventures On The Pleasure Planet were designed by Alex Noble and Catherine de Goris.

Belfast Festival at Queens

Once again Stage-Crew met all of the many and varied crewing needs of The Belfast Festival At Queens in 2011. Our uniformed crew were on hand in the 36 venues over 18 days in October. We supplied venue managers, stage managers, fixers, runners, aerial and ground-riggers, drivers, truck-loaders, set-builders, stage hands and more to the 112 events during another successful run of Europe’s second largest Arts Festival (only behind the Edinburgh Fringe). Once again we are pleased to say that everything ran without a hitch and to the high standards everyone has come to expect

Golf Channel: Being Graeme McDowell

The film Being Grame McDowell won the Gold World Medal at the 2012 New York Festivals International Television & Film Awards in April. The presentation took place at the National Association of Broadcasters Show in Las Vegas. The Golf Channel provided an inside-look at the life of PGA TOUR professional Graeme McDowell on the eve of his U.S. Open Championship title defence.

The award-winning documentary featured interviews with McDowell’s peers, colleagues and legends of the game. Stage-Crew assisted the American film crew on location all over the Antrim Coast. Apparently Graeme’s dad makes a great cup of coffee.
